The China Three Gorges Corporation announced on January 9 that the world’s largest clean energy corridor is expected to achieve a year-on-year increase of over 7% in power generation in 2024, providing strong support for China’s transition to green energy.

In 2024, the six hydropower stations along the Yangtze River—Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, and Gezhouba—are projected to generate a combined 295.904 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, marking a 7.11% increase from the previous year. This is equivalent to saving 89.24 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 240 million tons.

The corridor spans 1,800 kilometers, with a water level drop exceeding 900 meters and a total installed capacity of 71.695 million kilowatts—equivalent to three Three Gorges Hydropower Stations. In addition to generating electricity, the optimized reservoir operations have significantly enhanced the economic value of the Yangtze River’s “Golden Waterway.” In 2024, the Three Gorges Hub is expected to handle 159 million tons of cargo, further boosting regional development.
